We have consolidated our strengths into three business areas: „Energy and Climate“, „Sustainable Development and Innovation“, and „Research and Society NRW“.

Funding new energy technologies, integrating renewables, and launching alternative mobility concepts on the market are key elements of a sustainable energy supply and climate protection policies. Since being founded in 1974, we have been implementing the energy research programmes of the German Federal Government.

Sustainable Development and Innovation

The transformation towards sustainable living is the key challenge facing society. In the business area "Sustainable Development and Innovation", we provide stimulus at national and international level in the fields of sustainability and the circular economy, applied basic energy and hydrogen research, bioeconomy, marine, coastal and polar research, geosciences, maritime technologies, life sciences and health research, as well as materials research and chemistry.
