Funding Programme "From Material to Innovation”

New materials are the driving force behind many innovations in both industry and society, and make a significant contribution to reducing production costs. After all, the cost of material represents almost 50 percent of the production costs in manufacturing. Savings achieved through the efficient use of raw materials can therefore bring a significant competitive advantage.

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) initiated the funding programme "From Material to Innovation" in early 2015 with the intention of providing a new stimulus for interdisciplinary materials technologies. As part of the Federal Government’s new High-Tech Strategy, the programme is based on the concept of sustainability with its resource-saving effects. Both, material developments that are specifically geared to fields of application, and material platforms with broad application potentials are addressed in the funding concepts. Manufacturing technology will also be given more consideration in the manufacture and processing of innovative materials.
