Biotechnology Programme Baden-Württemberg

a programme of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg

In order to boost the competitiveness in the key technology of the 21st century and translate research into application, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg is promoting innovative research and development work in the areas of biotechnology and life sciences. Baden-Württemberg has one of the highest concentrations of companies in Germany in these two areas. In addition, when it comes to research, Baden-Württemberg is well represented not only in the entire range of biotechnology, but also in the associated areas. Initiated by the BioRegio competition sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the mid-1990s, Baden-Württemberg is now a leading biotechnology region in Germany.

In the Biotechnology business area, Project Management Jülich supervises the essential building blocks of the biotechnology promotion of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg with the "Biotechnology Programme" and the "Molecular Bionics" programme. As part of the biotechnology programme, projects are funded that open up potential for innovation within biotechnology for the various areas of industrial application. In the "Molecular Bionics" programme, Baden-Württemberg funds basic research and the development of products, methods and instruments (up to prototypes, including their manufacture and testing).
