National Climate Protection Initiative

a programme for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB)

The Federal Government’s Integrated Energy and Climate Protection Programme has laid important foundations for modern, safe and climate-friendly energy supply system in Germany. At the same time, it has established comprehensive measures for efficient climate protection. BMUB’s Climate Protection Initiative creates incentives for achieving the goals that have been set.

With its national climate protection initiative, BMUB plans to exploit the existing potential for reducing emissions at low cost. In addition, the international climate protection initiative supports measures for adaptation to climate change and for protecting climate-related biodiversity in developing and threshold countries. For the national initiative, € 280 million has been earmarked, while € 120 million has been designated for the international initiative.

In the context of the national climate protection initiative, BMUB has drawn up six subprogrammes. Project Management Jülich implements the "Funding programme for municipalities, social and cultural institutions", the "Funding programme for further development of the national part of the climate protection initiative", as well as the "Funding programme biomass for energy".
