Advice on European Funding and Innovation Funding

The establishment of an European Research Area aims to make Europe more competitive on the international playing field. An important pillar in this area is research funding provided by the European Union. The EU research framework programmes provide the thematic, administrative, and financial framework and supplement national research funding.

Furthermore, the European Union employs the instrument of project funding and started Horizon 2020 in 2014. With a volume of nearly 80 billion Euros, Horizon 2020 is the biggest Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in history. With Horizon 2020 the EU focuses on the whole innovation chain as well as on special support for SMEs. Up to 2020 the EU defines current funding priorities by biennial work programmes.

The Federal Ministry of Research and Education (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi), in agreement with the European Commission, have commissioned Project Management Jülich to serve as a National Contact Point. The NCP is charged with advising German researchers seeking funding on all matters related to EU research funding.
