Strengthening location-based cooperation of science and industry while pooling the resulting competences is a key objective of the federal government’s high-tech strategy. The “Research Campus – Public/Private Partnership for Innovations” funding initiative stands for a lively exchange between the scientific community, industry and society. The nine funded research campuses in Germany are trialling a new type of research cooperation under the same roof. The BMBF is supporting the development and advancement of this strategic cooperation with a funding perspective of 15 years to build the foundation for sustainable economic growth.

The project funding is geared towards research and development (R&D) activities that support the substantive development of the research campuses that already receive funding. This support is provided for a total duration of up to 15 years in consecutive funding phases of up to five years. Each funding phase is concluded with an assessment. Funding for a subsequent phase is only provided if this assessment is positive.
