As an interdisciplinary and knowledge-driven future-oriented technology the modern biotechnology offers great potential for innovations. Along with the digitalisation it is one of the key technologies for the transformation of our economy and society. Baden-Württemberg is one of the leading regions of Germany in regard to life-science, biomedical and biotechnological research as well as industrial development. To maintain this, the state government continuously develops this field of research further.

With the funding programme “Ideas Competition – Learning from Nature” novel research approaches with a high development risk are funded, which can neither be classified as pure basic research nor as market-oriented research. Project Management Jülich (PtJ) administers the first funding phase of the ideas competition on behalf of the ministry since 2018.
